RHYS IFANS JOINS RICHARD JENKINS IN THE EPIX ORIGINAL SPY SERIES BERLIN STATION

Modern-day Thriller Produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content – Debuts Fall 2016

New York, NY — July 30, 2015 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today that BAFTA Award-winner Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1, “Elementary,” Notting Hill) has been cast to star alongside Richard Jenkins in Berlin Station, the 10-part contemporary spy series produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content. Ifans joins the ensemble cast to play Case Officer Hector DeJean, a darkly charming, tenacious agent who works for Chief Steven Frost (Jenkins).

Michaël Roskam (Bullhead, The Drop) will executive produce the straight-to-series order and direct the first two episodes. New York Times best-selling spy novelist Olen Steinhauer (The Tourist, All The Old Knives, The Cairo Affair), who wrote the first episode, will write and executive produce the series. Brad Winters  (“Dig,” “The Americans,” “Boss,” “Oz”) is serving as the showrunner and will executive produce. Other executive producers for the series include Academy Award® winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Insider, Munich, “House of Cards”), and Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content (“True Detective,” “The Knick”).

Berlin Station follows Daniel Meyer, a newly anointed case officer who has arrived at the CIA foreign station in Berlin, Germany. Meyer has a clandestine mission: to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a now-famous whistleblower named “Thomas Shaw.” Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean, Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field agent—agent-running, deception, the dangers and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin?

“Rhys is an international star whose ability to play a wide range of characters has placed him in the rarefied group of actors who travel seamlessly between feature films and premium television,” said Mark S. Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX. “He is truly an amazing addition to this ensemble cast.”

“We are so pleased Rhys is joining the cast of Berlin Station, he is a skillful and transcendent actor, and his charismatic onscreen presence make him a perfect fit for this role,” said Amy Powell, President, Paramount TV.

Production on the series is scheduled to begin this Fall and premiere on EPIX in Fall 2016.

Ifans is a gifted actor known for his enduring presence, his distinctive approach to comedy, and his ability to elegantly disappear into compelling and complex roles that are always memorable. He has just completed filming Snowden directed by Oliver Stone alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley and Tom Wilkinson. Other upcoming projects include the television drama “The Marriage of Reason and Squalor,” and the feature films Alice and Wonderland: Looking through the Glass directed by James Bobin and starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter, and Dominion directed by Steven Bernstein.

His breakout performance in 1999’s Notting Hill, written by Richard Curtis and directed by Roger Mitchell opposite Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant resulted in Ifans being nominated for his first BAFTA Award. Other films include The Amazing Spider-Man, The Five-Year Engagement, Serena, Another Me, Anonymous, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Nanny McPhee Returns, Greenberg, Pirate Radio, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and The Shipping News, to name a few. On television he is know to American audiences for his role as Mycroft Holmes in the television series “Elementary,” and in the UK he starred as legendary actor/writer Peter Cook in the television movie “Not Only But Always,” for which he won a BAFTA Award. Onstage, Ifans has starred at the Donmar Warehouse inDon Juan in Soho, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and Bad Finger. He has appeared at the Royal National Theatre in Volpone and Under Milk Wood; at the Duke of York’s Theatre in Beautiful Thing; at the Royal Court Theatre in Thyesters; and at the Royal Exchange in Smoke and Poison Pen.
