EPIX ORIGINAL SERIES GET SHORTY FROM MGM TELEVISION TO PREMIERE SUNDAY, AUGUST 13 @ 10:00PM

First Look Photos Revealed

NEW YORK – May 16, 2017 – Premium cable network EPIX® has set the premiere date for its original series Get Shorty. The 10-episode dark comedy from MGM Television, based in part on the 1990 best-selling novel of the same name by  Elmore Leonard, will debut on EPIX Sunday, August 13 at 10:00PM ET/PT, 9:00PM CT.

First look images are available here: https://spaces.hightail.com/receive/dblXZ8j8rp

The cast, led by Screen Actors Guild Award® and BAFTA TV Award nominee Chris O’Dowd (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” Sapphires,  Bridesmaids) and multiple Emmy® winner Ray Romano (“Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Men of a Certain Age,” “Parenthood”), includes Sean Bridgers (“Rectify,” Room); Lidia Porto (Horrible Bosses 2); Megan Stevenson (“Review”); Goya Robles (11:55); Lucy Walters (“Power”) and Carolyn Dodd (The Adventures of Catty Wompus).

O’Dowd plays Miles Daly, a hitman from Nevada who tries to become a movie producer in Hollywood as a means to leave his criminal past behind and win back his recently-estranged family.  There, he meets Rick Moreweather (Romano), a washed up producer of low quality films who is desperately hanging on to the rungs of Hollywood relevancy and begrudgingly becomes Miles’ partner and guide through the maze of show business.  Along with his criminal associate Louis (Bridgers), Miles attempts to keep his worlds from colliding as he balances the demands of filmmaking while keeping the suspicions of the crime ring’s chief – and production bankroll – Amara (Porto) and her dangerous nephew, Yago (Robles) at bay.  Also involved in the production is ambitious studio executive April Adams (Stevenson), who started in the business as Rick’s assistant, as well as Miles’ beloved daughter Emma (Dodd) – despite objections from Miles’ estranged wife, Katie (Walters).

Created for television by Davey Holmes (“Shameless,” “In Treatment,” “Damages”), Get Shorty is executive produced by Holmes and Emmy nominee Allen Coulter (The Sopranos,” “Damages”) who also directs the first episode. Adam Arkin (“The Americans,” “Billions”) directed three episodes of the series and is also a co-executive producer. The series is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

Get Shorty is the third original series premiere for EPIX, joining its timely, critically-acclaimed drama Berlin Station and comedy Graves (which garnered a Golden Globe nomination for star Nick Nolte).  Both series are slated to return for second seasons in 2017.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (“MGM”) announced last week that it closed a deal to acquire full ownership of EPIX, having reached an agreement to acquire the interests held by joint venture partners Viacom, Paramount and Lionsgate.

EPIX TO PREMIERE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY ‘STRAIGHT/CURVE’

EPIX TO PREMIERE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY STRAIGHT/CURVE

Filmmakers Tackle Health Crisis Caused by Negative Body Image

New York, NY – April 24, 2017 – Premium television network EPIX® today announced the premiere of the original documentary film Straight/Curve, an incisive and poignant exploration of society’s unrealistic beauty standards and their damaging effects on the industry’s target audience: women and girls. The documentary will debut on EPIX on Wednesday, June 21 at 8:00PM ET/PT, 7:00PM CT.

Straight/Curve takes a bold offense against today’s pervasive, ceaseless reinforcement of unhealthy messaging around body image, and provides a voice – and a vision – for those affected by the social crisis perpetuated by our culture’s unattainable and unnatural standards of beauty,” said Mark Greenberg, President and CEO, EPIX. “With sharp perspectives from both industry veterans and young, impressionable consumers alike, Straight/Curve is exactly the kind of culturally-relevant filmmaking our viewers have come to find on EPIX.”

Ninety percent of young women and girls say they do not feel represented in the fashion industry or in media, and that the imagery they consume on a daily basis makes them feel “disgusting” and “less than.” Straight/Curve examines the industries and obstacles responsible for this body image crisis and showcases the dynamic leaders fighting for more diversity of size, race and age.   At a time when the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than words, Straight/Curve sets out to change the imagery we are seeing and to bolster a movement that is redefining our culture’s unrealistic and dangerous standards of beauty to impact society at large.

The film is directed by Jenny McQuaile and produced by Jess Lewis, Jenny McQuaile and Yael Melamede through STRAIGHT/CURVE and SALTY Features. It is executive produced by Jocelyn Diaz, Ross Bernard and Jill Burkhart; Valerie Bishop Pearson serves as producer.

Also upcoming on EPIX is the previously-announced comedy special, Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally – Summer of 69: No Apostrophe, which will debut on Friday, May 19 at 10:00PM ET/PT, 9:00PM CT.  In addition to its original documentaries and specials, EPIX will continue its rollout of original scripted series this year, with the debut of the 10-episode dark comedy Get Shorty (starring Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano) as well as the season two premieres of its timely, critically-acclaimed returning series: drama Berlin Station and comedy Graves (which garnered a Golden Globe nomination for star Nick Nolte).

EPIX SETS WORLD TV PREMIERE FOR EMMY AND PEABODY AWARD WINNING

BLUMHOUSE TELEVISION’S “ELECTION DAY: LENS ACROSS AMERICA

EPIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY TO AIR TUESDAY, JAN. 17 AT 8/7C

Documentary Directed by Emma Tammi and Henry Jacobson Offers a Non-Partisan Look through the Lenses of Seven Photographers as they Capture the Historic and Surprising Culmination of America’s 2016 Presidential Election

New York, NY – January 10, 2017 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today that the EPIX Original Documentary Election Day: Lens Across America from Emmy and Peabody Award Winning Blumhouse Television and directors Emma Tammi and Henry Jacobson will make its world television premiere on Tuesday, January 17 at 8/7C. The timely documentary weaves together the stories behind the work of seven photographers as they cover one of the most surprising election days in American history, each from a different perspective and location. Following the day’s chronology, the narrative cuts in “real time” between the photographers on the ground in Iowa, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New York. The photographers, through their images and conversations with their subjects, capture an honest and non-partisan look at the many raw emotions of Americans on this one fateful day.

Mark S. Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX, said: “With emotions across the globe still running at a fever pitch in anticipation of the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, we at EPIX want to reflect on the unpredictable election day and subsequent outcome that will continue to shape our country over the next four years. Election Day: Lens Across America is an extremely timely work that uses the unique perspective of seven acclaimed photographers to tell the dynamic stories of individuals across the political spectrum as they process the polling results within their respective communities and at polling places across the country.”

Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold, Co-Presidents of Blumhouse Television said: “We are excited to continue building Blumhouse Television’s slate of original documentaries with Emma and Henry’s thought provoking and compelling Election Day: Lens Across America and are thrilled to partner with EPIX.”

Tammi and Jacobson said: “We are honored to be working with EPIX and Blumhouse Television to bring this portrait of our country to viewers. Our hope is that this film helps give some perspective to what has been, perhaps, the most divisive political season in our nation’s history.”

The photographers featured in the documentary are:

  • Landon Nordeman is a photojournalist who regularly contributes to New York Magazine, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and other publications. On Election Day, Nordeman covered Hillary Clinton’s party at the Javits Center on assignment from TIME, documenting the mood in the room as it devolved from hope and excitement, to shock and despair.

  • Danny Wilcox Frazier is a member of the renowned VII Photo Agency. On Election Day, he traveled through his home state of Iowa, photographing rural polling places and watching the results come in at Trump Headquarters in Des Moines.

  • Matt Eich is a photographic essayist living in Charlottesville, VA. On Election Day, Matt traveled to the polling places around a largely military community in Norfolk, VA spending the day interviewing and photographing voters for a medium format portrait project.

  • Larry Fink is a legendary documentary photographer whose work regularly appears in Vanity Fair, New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker, and can be found in the collections of the major museums around the world. On Election Day, we find Larry working around his home in Eastern Pennsylvania.

  • Sam Cannon is a 24-year old video artist living in Brooklyn. On Election Day, she took her studio into the streets, capturing passersby as they destroyed devices she loaded with looping media from this contentious campaign.

  • Mark Abramson is a young photojournalist in New York City known for his double exposure work. On Election Day, Abramson went to Donald Trump’s party in New York and took to the streets to shoot the reactions to the realization that Trump was going to win.

  • Sheila Pree Bright is an award-winning fine art photographer based in Atlanta, GA, focusing largely on issues of race and representation in American culture. On Election Day, Sheila focused on the African American community in Atlanta.

Election Day: Lens Across America, an EPIX Original Documentary/Blumhouse Television Production.  Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, Jeremy Gold and Jessica Rhoades are executive producing for Blumhouse along with Emma Tammi and Henry Jacobson of Mind Hive Film and Adam Barton, Sam Bathrick, and Alex Cullen of Resonant Pictures. For EPIX, Jocelyn Diaz and Jill Burkhart are executive producers, with Valerie Bishop Pearson serving as producer.

Election Day: Lens Across America is the latest documentary from Blumhouse Television joining the Emmy and Peabody award winning The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst and the Peabody award winning How to Dance in Ohio.

The EPIX Original series Berlin Station, a 10-episode one-hour contemporary spy drama, follows Daniel Miller (Richard Armitage) who has just arrived at the CIA station in Berlin, Germany. Daniel has a clandestine mission: to determine the identity of a now-famous whistleblower masquerading as “Thomas Shaw.” Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean (Rhys Ifans), Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field officer — agent-running, deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin? The ensemble cast also features Richard Jenkins, Michelle Forbes, Leland Orser, Tamlyn Tomita and Mina Tander. Produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, the series creator/executive producer is New York Times bestselling author Olen Steinhauer (The TouristAll The Old Knives). The EPIX Original series Graves, a single-camera, 10-episode half-hour dramedy, tells the story of President Richard Graves (Nick Nolte), a former two-term POTUS as he embarks on a Don Quixote-like quest to right the wrongs of his administration and reclaim his legacy 25 years after leaving the White House. With topics ranging from immigration to gay rights, foreign policy and public funding for arts and sciences, Graves holds nothing sacred as he unspools some of his administration’s proudest victories. His enlightenment takes place just as his wife Margaret Graves (Sela Ward) decides it’s finally time for her to pursue her own political ambitions. The cast also includes: Skylar Astin, Heléne Yorke, Chris Lowell, Callie Hernandez, Nia Vardalos, Ernie Hudson, Roger Bart and Angélica Maria. Produced by Lionsgate Television, Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote, Jobs) is the creator/showrunner, Academy Award® winner Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) is the executive producer and Bill Hill (“Veep,” “Eastbound & Down”) is a producer. Serving as executive producers along with Stern and Shapiro are Keith Eisner (“The Good Wife”) and Eric Weinberg (“Scrubs”). The supervising producer is David Iserson (“Mad Men”). Lisa Parsons (“Arrested Development”) and Nick Nolte are also producers on the series. Join the conversation about Graves on Twitter with #Graves.

In the run-up to the presidential election, America Divided, the docu-series created by Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read, and Richard Rowley, with executive producers Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes, and produced by DividedFilms in association with RadicalMedia, features timely narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system – all woven into an eight-story, five-part series. The five, 60-minute episodes will air as follows: premiere on September 30 at 9pm ET/PT, 8C; Episode 2 on October 7, Episode 3 on October 14, Episode 4 on October 28, and the finale on November 4. America Divided follows high-profile correspondents as they explore aspects of inequality related to their own biographies.

Oscar®-winning hip-hop artist Common returns to his hometown of Chicago — ground zero for disparities in the criminal justice system. Actress Rosario Dawson travels to Flint, Michigan to investigate the man-made disaster behind the city’s water crisis. Emmy®– and Golden Globe®-winning actress America Ferrera travels to Texas, where migrants who have entered the country illegally are the focus of hostility, and where even US-born children are denied basic rights. Actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis investigates the political landscape in his home state of North Carolina and considers how it’s emblematic of the country’s deepening political divide during the 2016 campaign. Legendary TV producer Norman Lear, investigates gentrification and displacement in a city of people with no homes and homes with no people and goes undercover to expose racial discrimination in housing. Golden Globe®-winning and Emmy®-nominated actress and producer Amy Poehler reports on the complex challenges faced by domestic workers who maintain an intimate relationship with the families that employ them while also struggling for better conditions. Actor and activist Peter Sarsgaard explores the addiction crisis ravaging a heartland beset by unemployment and the shuttering of America’s factories. And “Grey’s Anatomy” star and former teacher Jesse Williams goes back to the classroom to study the battle to fix inequality in education and learns of a daunting school-to-prison pipeline. America Divided was created by Solly Granatstein (“Years Of Living Dangerously,” “60 Minutes”), Lucian Read (“Years of Living Dangerously,” 99%) and Richard Rowley (Dirty Wars, “Years of Living Dangerously”). Serena transcends the world of tennis and is sure to fascinate viewers across the country.”

Remarked Serena Williams: “2015 was a defining time in my life and career. I think my story will be relatable to audiences whether you love tennis or not. It’s a story of perseverance, failure and triumph. It’s the most intimate I’ve ever allowed myself to be on film. It was a scary but ultimately really gratifying experience, which I’m hoping inspires others to pursue their dreams. I’m really grateful to EPIX for this incredible opportunity and the care they’ve shown me. Can’t wait for you all to see it.”

For Serena, the documentary team was provided unparalleled access. Viewers will be witness to the external pressures and vulnerabilities Williams faces in her quest to achieve four Grand Slams in a row (a “Serena Slam”), and her losses at the 2015 U.S. Open and 2016 Australian Open. In addition, the film takes an unprecedented look at Williams’ life off the court as the filmmakers capture intimate and unguarded moments with her family and inner circle of coaches, trainers and friends.

An Exclusive Presentation That Goes Behind the Scenes to Tell the Remarkable History of the Rocky Franchise

Features Interviews with Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, Dolph Lundgren, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Milo Ventimiglia and Ryan Coogler

 Airs Wednesday, November 18 at 8PM ET/PT, 7CT

Rocky is a film that parallels Sylvester Stallone’s own true story of obscurity to success. The one hour documentary tells the pugilistic love story from beginning to end directly through its creator, Stallone, who was virtually unknown in 1976 when he persuaded producers and a major studio to let him star in the film he pennedThe movie told the gritty tale of a working class boxer who gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight the heavyweight champion, and the film quickly became an overnight success, garnering three Academy Awards®, including Best Picture. It launched Stallone’s career as a box office megastar, spawned an iconic Billboard #1 theme song, and introduced the use of the Steadicam, which revolutionized the filmmaking industry.

FROM ROCKY TO CREED: THE LEGACY CONTINUES captures Sylvester Stallone and producers Irwin Winkler and the late Robert Chartoff sharing the franchise’s Cinderella story from the first film to the critically and commercially-successful sixth film, Rocky Balboa. Featured are Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed in Rocky I, II, III, IV) and Dolph Lundgren (Ivan Drago in Rocky IV), both of whom talk about the physicality and preparations to play their characters and how they landed the roles of their lives; Milo Ventimiglia (Robert Balboa, Jr. in Rocky Balboa) on playing Rocky’s son; and Academy Award®-winning director of photography and Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown  (Rocky I, II) recounts the challenges attached to shooting the boxing sequences and how his invention captured the most memorable scene in the movie which, in Stallone’s words, led to “the shot of my life.”

The documentary also offers multi-generational fans an inside look at the new chapter in the Rocky story, Creed. The upcoming film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema is directed by award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and stars Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Fantastic Four) as Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed; Academy Award® nominee Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role; Tessa Thompson (Selma, Dear White People) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan. Coogler directs from a screenplay he wrote with Aaron Covington, story by Coogler, based on characters from the Rocky series written by Sylvester Stallone.  The film hits theaters on November 25, 2015. FROM ROCKY TO CREED: THE LEGACY CONTINUES highlights the strong mentoring relationship between Stallone and Coogler, as well as the impact of the Apollo Creed character on our culture and the intense and inspirational preparations undertaken to deliver another new storyline for the enduring line of Rocky films. EPIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY DOPED: THE DIRTY SIDE OF SPORTS UNMASKS THE DARK REALITY OF BANNED SUBSTANCE TESTING

EPIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY DOPED: THE DIRTY SIDE OF SPORTS UNMASKS

THE DARK REALITY OF BANNED SUBSTANCE TESTING

World Television Premiere Airs Wednesday, September 30 at 8PM ET/PT, 7C

From the Conflicts of USADA to the Ongoing Anti-Doping Challenges in Olympic and Professional Sports

As Seen through the Eyes of Elite Athletes

New York, NY – September 9, 2015 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today that its newest one-hour Original Documentary Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports, which offers a timely and critical look at the history of anti-doping policies in professional sports, will premiere Wednesday, September 30 at 8PM ET/PT, 7C.  The film is executive produced by Bobby Valentine (former MLB Manager, current athletic director of Sacred Heart University), produced and directed by Andrew J. Muscato (“Schooled: The Price of College Sports,” Checkmates) and narrated by Nick Kroll (“Kroll Show,” “The League”).

The documentary features the inspiring first-hand accounts of athletes who claim their professional careers have been unfairly impacted by ineffective drug testing or intrusive testing protocols. Interviewed are record-setting 2015 World Championship bronze medalist and 2016 United States Olympic sprint sensation Tori Bowie, track coach Philippe DeRosier, former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi and shot put champion Adam Nelson, who claimed his rightfully-earned 2004 Olympics gold medal after a retroactive testing of his Ukrainian competitor confirmed the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports presents the many controversies and conflicts surrounding anti-doping policies and implementation along with archival and vérité footage that tell the story of a system that has trouble catching the cheaters. The film also reveals more about what the MLB Commissioner did and did not know about the steroid scandal in baseball through the first-ever public interview with former MLB investigator Ed Dominguez.

“EPIX strives to present relevant and thought-provoking programming that not only entertains but also informs,” said Mark S. Greenberg, EPIX President and CEO. “The topic of doping is a hot-button issue that continues to spark pointed conversation throughout the sports universe. This documentary offers a compelling look at the efforts to create fairness in testing, while shedding light on the surprising personal stories of everyday athletes.”

Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports also includes conversations with current and former representatives of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) as well as Victor Conte (former BALCO CEO), Armond Armstead (former USC Football player), David Epstein (bestselling author, The Sports Gene), David Howman (WADA Director General), Dick Pound (former WADA President), DeMaurice Smith (Executive Director, NFL Players Association), Renee Anne Shirley (former Executive Director, Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission), ESPN’s T.J. QuinnVice’s Patrick Hruby, noted boxing writer Thomas Hauser and many others.

“The policies used in sports for the war on performance enhancing drugs overreach and underperform,” said Andrew J. Muscato, Producer and Director of the documentary.  “Amazingly clean athletes are not only being harmed by these rules, but they have no say in how to improve what’s clearly a broken system. In order for a global gold standard to truly work, athletes should be a bigger part of the process and that is how we can get to a better and more amicable solution for all. This is a big issue we discuss in the film.”
