EPIX COMEDY ‘GRAVES’ ELECTS NEW CAST MEMBER ADAM GOLDBERG AND SPENCER GRAMMER FOR SEASON TWO

EPIX COMEDY GRAVES ELECTS NEW CAST MEMBERS

ADAM GOLDBERG AND SPENCER GRAMMER FOR SEASON TWO

10-Episode Series from Lionsgate Stars Golden Globe® Nominee Nick Nolte, Sela Ward, Skylar Astin, Heléne Yorke and Callie Hernandez

Season Two Commences Production May 15 in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM

New York, NY – May 15, 2017 – Premium network EPIX®, an MGM company, today announced the addition of Adam Goldberg (“Fargo,” “The Jim Gaffigan Show”) and Spencer Grammer (“Greek,” “Mr. Robinson,” “Ironside”) to the second season cast of acclaimed comedy GRAVES. The series from Lionsgate – for which star Nick Nolte garnered a Golden Globe® nomination for his role as ex-President Richard Graves – has commenced production in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM with an eye towards a return on EPIX later this year.

After a year of public protests against his Presidential legacy, Season 2 finds former President Richard Graves turning inward in search of the man he used to be before he was President. This journey is compounded by the arrival of his first grandchild, thanks to daughter Olivia (Heléne Yorke) and a new revelation about his son, Jeremy (Chris Lowell). Graves’s journey coincides with wife Margaret’s (Sela Ward) Senate campaign, as the former First Lady attempts to build her own political legacy at the exact moment that her husband is tearing his down; and his assistant, Isaiah Miller’s (Skylar Astin) search for new direction after taking a bullet for the President in the Season 1 finale.  In addition, Callie Hernandez returns as Samantha.

In a recurring role, Goldberg will portray ‘Christopher Sachs,’ who is Margaret Graves’ new campaign manager: a fastidious, idiosyncratic, often ruthless political mastermind who leads Margaret down a populist path.  He doesn’t care about right or left, or right and wrong; he only plays to win.

Grammer will recur as ‘Katie Farrell,’ Margaret’s new campaign communications director, a blonde conservative princess cut from the cloth of Ann Coulter and Kellyanne Conway. As Isaiah’s Republican Dream Girl turned girlfriend, Katie takes Isaiah under her wing and makes big plans for his political career.

Produced by Lionsgate in association with Kingsgate Films, Josh Michael Stern (“Swing Vote,” “Jobs”) is the creator/showrunner, Academy Award® winner Greg Shapiro (“The Hurt Locker,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) and Rebecca Kirshner (“90210,” “Gilmore Girls”) are executive producers, Abby Gewanter (“Pushing Daisies”) is supervising producer, and Emmy® Award-winning Bill Hill (“Veep,” “Eastbound & Down”) and Jack Moore (“Dear White People,” “Crowded”) are producers.

“We are incredibly honored for the support and recognition of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association of Nick Nolte’s masterful portrayal of a former President who endeavors to make good on a less than auspicious political career in one of our first original series ‘Graves,’” said EPIX President and CEO Mark S. Greenberg. “’Graves’ was undeniably prescient in its reflection of issues that surfaced on the debate floors of this year’s election, many of which were once thought too outrageous in the writers’ room only to see them come to life during the Presidential campaign.”

The penultimate episode aired last night and this Sunday, December 18 the first season will air its finale on EPIX. Production on season two is slated for early spring 2017.

“Graves” follows former two-term Republican President Richard Graves (Nick Nolte, A Walk In The Woods) as he embarks on a Don Quixote-like quest to right the wrongs of his administration and reclaim his legacy 25 years after leaving the White House. His enlightenment takes place as his wife Margaret (Sela Ward, Gone Girl), decides to pursue her own political ambitions. The series also stars Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) as over-eager assistant to President Graves, Isaiah Miller; Heléne Yorke (“Masters of Sex”) as first daughter Olivia who moves back home when her life spirals out of control; Chris Lowell (The Help) as Jeremy, the underachieving first son who returns home from war in Afghanistan; and Callie Hernandez (Alien: Covenant) as Samantha, the free-spirited waitress who becomes the President’s muse. Season two will start production shortly in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A three-time Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe winner, Nolte has masterfully portrayed a wide range of roles. Most recently he was seen in A Walk in the Woods, co-starring Robert Redford. He also starred in Lionsgate’s coming-of-age mixed martial-arts drama Warrior, for which he received Academy Award®, Screen Actors Guild and Broadcast Film Critics nominations for Best Supporting Actor. His additional film credits include: Affliction, for which he received Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and Independent Film nominations for Best Actor; The Prince of Tides, for which he received an Oscar® nomination for Best Actor and won the Golden Globe® for Best Actor; Tropic Thunder; Spiderwick Chronicles; The Beautiful Country; Clean; The Peaceful Warrior; Neverwas; Over the Hedge; Hotel Rwanda; The Good Thief; The Hulk; Northfork; Investigating Sex; U-Turn; Afterglow; Jefferson In Paris; Cape Fear; Down and Out in Beverly Hills; 48 Hours; Weeds; and Q&A. His production company Kingsgate currently has in development White Jazz, with a script by James Ellroy, based on his best-selling film noir novel, and The Last Magic Summer, an adaptation of the Peter Gent novel of the same name.

From Lionsgate, “Graves” was created by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote, Jobs) who also serves as showrunner and Academy Award® winner Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) is the executive producer.  Executive Producers on the first season include Keith Eisner and Eric Weinberg, with David Iserson as Supervising Producer and Bill Hill, Lisa Parsons and Abby Genwanter as producers.

Greenberg, President and CEO, EPIX. “These series capitalize on what the EPIX audience expects, with incredible creative auspices behind them, high-end cinematic production values and distinct stories that come to life on screen through powerful performances by our talented ensemble casts. In addition, our new docu-series America Divided sheds light on some of the most salient and timely topics being debated today through the lens of prolific executive producers and our high-profile and dynamic correspondents.”

The EPIX Original series Berlin Station, a 10-episode one-hour contemporary spy drama, follows Daniel Miller (Richard Armitage) who has just arrived at the CIA station in Berlin, Germany. Daniel has a clandestine mission: to determine the identity of a now-famous whistleblower masquerading as “Thomas Shaw.” Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean (Rhys Ifans), Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field officer — agent-running, deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin? The ensemble cast also features Richard Jenkins, Michelle Forbes, Leland Orser, Tamlyn Tomita and Mina Tander. Produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, the series creator/executive producer is New York Times bestselling author Olen Steinhauer (The TouristAll The Old Knives). Bradford Winters (“Dig,” “The Americans,” “Boss,” “Oz”) is the showrunner and an executive producer. Other executive producers for the series include Academy Award® winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The InsiderMunich, “House of Cards”) and Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content (“True Detective,” “The Knick,” “Mr. Robot”), and Michaël Roskam (BullheadThe Drop). The EPIX Original series Graves, a single-camera, 10-episode half-hour dramedy, tells the story of President Richard Graves (Nick Nolte), a former two-term POTUS as he embarks on a Don Quixote-like quest to right the wrongs of his administration and reclaim his legacy 25 years after leaving the White House. With topics ranging from immigration to gay rights, foreign policy and public funding for arts and sciences, Graves holds nothing sacred as he unspools some of his administration’s proudest victories. His enlightenment takes place just as his wife Margaret Graves (Sela Ward) decides it’s finally time for her to pursue her own political ambitions. The cast also includes: Skylar Astin, Heléne Yorke, Chris Lowell, Callie Hernandez, Nia Vardalos, Ernie Hudson, Roger Bart and Angélica Maria. Produced by Lionsgate Television, Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote, Jobs) is the creator/showrunner, Academy Award® winner Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) is the executive producer and Bill Hill (“Veep,” “Eastbound & Down”) is a producer. Serving as executive producers along with Stern and Shapiro are Keith Eisner (“The Good Wife”) and Eric Weinberg (“Scrubs”). The supervising producer is David Iserson (“Mad Men”). In the run-up to the presidential election, America Divided, the docu-series created by Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read, and Richard Rowley, with executive producers Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes, and produced by DividedFilms in association with RadicalMedia, features timely narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system – all woven into an eight-story, five-part series. The five, 60-minute episodes will air as follows: premiere on September 30 at 9pm ET/PT, 8C; Episode 2 on October 7, Episode 3 on October 14, Episode 4 on October 28, and the finale on November 4. America Divided follows high-profile correspondents as they explore aspects of inequality related to their own biographies.

Oscar®-winning hip-hop artist Common returns to his hometown of Chicago — ground zero for disparities in the criminal justice system. Actress Rosario Dawson travels to Flint, Michigan to investigate the man-made disaster behind the city’s water crisis. Emmy®– and Golden Globe®-winning actress America Ferrera travels to Texas, where migrants who have entered the country illegally are the focus of hostility, and where even US-born children are denied basic rights. Actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis investigates the political landscape in his home state of North Carolina and considers how it’s emblematic of the country’s deepening political divide during the 2016 campaign. Legendary TV producer Norman Lear, investigates gentrification and displacement in a city of people with no homes and homes with no people and goes undercover to expose racial discrimination in housing. Golden Globe®-winning and Emmy®-nominated actress and producer Amy Poehler reports on the complex challenges faced by domestic workers who maintain an intimate relationship with the families that employ them while also struggling for better conditions. Actor and activist Peter Sarsgaard explores the addiction crisis ravaging a heartland beset by unemployment and the shuttering of America’s factories. And “Grey’s Anatomy” star and former teacher Jesse Williams goes back to the classroom to study the battle to fix inequality in education and learns of a daunting school-to-prison pipeline. America Divided was created by Solly Granatstein (“Years Of Living Dangerously,” “60 Minutes”), Lucian Read (“Years of Living Dangerously,” 99%) and Richard Rowley (Dirty Wars, “Years of Living Dangerously”). Partners with Lionsgate on “Graves” and Paramount Television on “Berlin Station” to Produce First Two Original Series on EPIX

Production to Begin this Fall with Premieres Fall 2016

Third Original Series Coming from MGM to be Announced Soon

New York, NY, May 21, 2015 – Premium TV network EPIX announced today that it is adding original, scripted series to its programming slate, beginning with series from its joint-venture studio partners Paramount, Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Two of the series will begin production this fall for premiere autumn 2016. The series, “Graves” from Lionsgate Television and “Berlin Station” from Paramount Television, mark the first original series that will appear on EPIX across its channels, EPIX On Demand, EPIX.com and TV Everywhere platforms with its distribution partners.  A third original series from MGM will be announced in the near future.

Commenting on the original series, Mark Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX said, “Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM are great partners, investors and supporters of our network and are proven leaders in television entertainment.  Tapping into the creative talents of these entertainment power-houses to deliver this kind of compelling programming is exactly what we had envisioned when we created this joint-venture and launched the channel. Our focus was on business success and profitability first and having established that firm business foundation, we are now in a position to launch our original series with these two great shows from Lionsgate and Paramount and a third on the way from MGM.”

Added Jocelyn Diaz, Executive Vice President for Original Programming, “Original series provide a platform to build our brand and distinguish our offering. We are proud of the level of quality and sophistication of these projects and are thrilled to announce them today with our partners.”

“Berlin Station” is an hour-long, 10-part espionage drama series that will be produced in partnership with Paramount Television.  Academy Award nominee Michaël Roskam (“Bullhead,” “The Drop”) will executive produce the straight-to-series order and is set to direct the first two episodes.  American spy novelist Olen Steinhauer (The Cairo Affair, All The Old Knives) will write and executive produce the series.  Academy Award winner Eric Roth (“House of Cards,” “The Insider,” “Munich”) and Anonymous Content (“True Detective,” “The Knick”) will also serve as executive producers.

“Olen is among the most respected espionage voices of our time, and Michael has a seasoned and distinct command of noir. Together, they make the ideal creative team to collaborate with on this sophisticated and gritty modern day spy thriller,” said Amy Powell, President, Paramount Television. “We also take great pride in partnering with the distinguished and prolific storyteller Eric Roth and the talented team at EPIX on developing an inspired original series that is reflective of the network’s commitment to high quality entertainment.”

“Berlin Station” follows Daniel Meyer, a newly anointed case officer who has arrived at the CIA foreign station in Berlin, Germany. It with a clandestine mission: to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a now-famous whistleblower named “Thomas Shaw.”  Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean, Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field agent—agent-running, deception, the dangers and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin?

Michaël Roskum is represented by Anonymous Content’s Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett, and UTA and attorney Alan Wertheimer. Olen Steinhauer is represented by Jill Gillett and Sylvie Rabineau at RWSG.  Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content will also be executive producers of the series.

“Graves” is a single camera, half-hour comedy starring Oscar-nominated Nick Nolte as a former President of the United States.  Twenty years after his presidency, former President Richard Graves has the epiphany that his policies have damaged the country for decades and so, with his young assistant, he goes on a Don Quixote-like journey to right his administration’s wrongs just as his wife, the former First Lady, decides to follow her own political ambitions.

The 10-episode, straight-to-series order will be produced in partnership with Lionsgate TV.  Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) created the project and will write, direct and executive produce the series.  Oscar-winning producer Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker) will also be an executive producer.

“‘Graves’ is a perfect vehicle to usher EPIX into premium scripted programming, and we look forward to delivering high end quality content for years to come,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television Group. “‘Graves’ is a provocative comedy featuring a terrific script from writer/director Joshua Michael Stern, a consummate producer in Greg Shapiro and the brilliant and charismatic Nick Nolte as a former U.S. President whose conscience catches up with him with tragic and comic results.  It is perfectly timed to premiere in an election year and marks a new chapter in the successful evolution of EPIX as a leading premium cable platform.”

Nick Nolte is represented by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Joshua Michael Stern is represented by Paradigm and AJ Brandenstein at Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, LLP. Greg Shapiro is represented by Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman.

EPIX and MGM are finalizing an agreement on an original series that will add to the network’s programming line-up. Specific details will be announced in the near future.

“We are working with EPIX to develop our next exciting series and look forward to bringing our signature style and storytelling to EPIX soon,” said Roma Khanna, President of MGM Television Group and Digital. “From Vikings to Fargo, MGM Television is the force behind some of the most exciting and award-winning series currently on television.”

In addition to the new scripted series, EPIX will continue to present original documentaries and docu-series (Deep Web, NHL Road to the Winter Classic and Stadium Series), comedy specials (Russell Brand, Jim Norton, Jim Breuer, Lisa Lampanelli) and music events (Katy Perry: Prismatic Tour), along with new movies (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Selma, Interstellar) and thousands of titles from partner studios and other sources.
