ASHLEY JUDD SPIES FOR EPIX IN ‘BERLIN STATION’ SEASON TWO

ASHLEY JUDD SPIES FOR EPIX IN ‘BERLIN STATION’ SEASON TWO

Critically-Acclaimed Drama Series from Paramount Television and Anonymous Content To Begin Production In Berlin On March 31

New York, NY – March 21, 2017 – Premium network EPIX® announced today that Ashley Judd has joined the cast of its acclaimed spy drama Berlin Station as a series regular for season two. The series, from Paramount Television and Anonymous Content, will begin production in Berlin on March 31st with an eye towards a 2017 return on EPIX. As previously announced, also new to the cast this season is Keke Palmer (“Scream Queens”) as series regular, April Lewis.

Judd will play BB Yates, Berlin’s disarming new Chief of Station, nicknamed “The Station Whisperer” for her itinerant work in the field shoring up CIA stations in moral or corporate disrepair. Part company loyalist and part maverick, BB toes a dangerous line between serving those above her and empowering those below her. Always a contradiction, she arrives in Berlin to defy expectations and breathe new life into the troubled CIA station she now runs.

“We are thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Ashley Judd to the cast of Berlin Station,” said Mark Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX. “With its illustrious auspices among both cast and producers – and subject matter that is more timely than ever – Berlin Station brings the kind of high-quality, compelling storytelling for which EPIX is known. We couldn’t be more excited to embark on a new season.”

“We are excited to have Ashley and Keke on board and are eager to begin the second season of this critically acclaimed show in the intriguing city of Berlin with our outstanding partners at EPIX,” said Amy Powell, President, Paramount TV.

An eighth generation Eastern Kentuckian, Ashley Judd first proved her acting abilities in her debut feature film role as Ruby Lee Gissing in Victor Nunez’s internationally acclaimed Ruby In Paradise. Having won major acting awards worldwide, Judd has demonstrated her range in a variety of genres and is a proven box office draw. Judd recently appeared in Black Bear Pictures’ “Barry” as Ann Dunham, Barack Obama’s mother, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. Additionally, Judd was seen in Insurgent, the second film in the Divergent franchise based on Veronica Roth’s New York Times bestselling trilogy, Divergent; and starred in ABC’s miniseries “Missing” as Becca Winstone, an ex-CIA agent who would do anything to get her son back after discovering his disappearance while studying abroad. Judd was nominated for an Emmy® Award for her performance in “Missing.” Judd is represented by WME and Anonymous Content.

Berlin Station also stars Rhys Ifans, Richard Jenkins, Michelle Forbes and Leland Orser.

The series is created and executive produced by Olen Steinhauer (author: The TouristAll The Old KnivesThe Cairo Affair).  Bradford Winters (“Dig,” “The Americans,” “Boss,” “Oz”) serves as executive producer and showrunner.  Academy Award® winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, “House of Cards”), along with Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content (“True Detective,” “The Knick,” “Mr. Robot”) also executive produce.  The series is produced by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content.

Berlin Station season two is part of EPIX’s continued rollout of original scripted series this year, which also features the debut of the 10-episode dark comedy Get Shorty (starring Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano) as well as the return of its timely comedy Graves (which garnered a Golden Globe nomination for star Nick Nolte).

The EPIX Original series Berlin Station, a 10-episode one-hour contemporary spy drama, follows Daniel Miller (Richard Armitage) who has just arrived at the CIA station in Berlin, Germany. Daniel has a clandestine mission: to determine the identity of a now-famous whistleblower masquerading as “Thomas Shaw.” Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean (Rhys Ifans), Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field officer — agent-running, deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin? With topics ranging from immigration to gay rights, foreign policy and public funding for arts and sciences, Graves holds nothing sacred as he unspools some of his administration’s proudest victories. His enlightenment takes place just as his wife Margaret Graves (Sela Ward) decides it’s finally time for her to pursue her own political ambitions. The cast also includes: Skylar Astin, Heléne Yorke, Chris Lowell, Callie Hernandez, Nia Vardalos, Ernie Hudson, Roger Bart and Angélica Maria. In the run-up to the presidential election, America Divided, the docu-series created by Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read, and Richard Rowley, with executive producers Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes, and produced by DividedFilms in association with RadicalMedia, features timely narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system – all woven into an eight-story, five-part series. The five, 60-minute episodes will air as follows: premiere on September 30 at 9pm ET/PT, 8C; Episode 2 on October 7, Episode 3 on October 14, Episode 4 on October 28, and the finale on November 4. America Divided follows high-profile correspondents as they explore aspects of inequality related to their own biographies.

Oscar®-winning hip-hop artist Common returns to his hometown of Chicago — ground zero for disparities in the criminal justice system. Actress Rosario Dawson travels to Flint, Michigan to investigate the man-made disaster behind the city’s water crisis. Emmy®– and Golden Globe®-winning actress America Ferrera travels to Texas, where migrants who have entered the country illegally are the focus of hostility, and where even US-born children are denied basic rights. Actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis investigates the political landscape in his home state of North Carolina and considers how it’s emblematic of the country’s deepening political divide during the 2016 campaign. Legendary TV producer Norman Lear, investigates gentrification and displacement in a city of people with no homes and homes with no people and goes undercover to expose racial discrimination in housing. Golden Globe®-winning and Emmy®-nominated actress and producer Amy Poehler reports on the complex challenges faced by domestic workers who maintain an intimate relationship with the families that employ them while also struggling for better conditions. New York, NY – November 13, 2015 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today that production has started on Berlin Station, the 10-part contemporary spy series produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content. Shooting will take place in Berlin and the series will premiere on EPIX in the fall of 2016.

Previously announced cast includes: Richard Armitage as Daniel Miller, the cerebral, newly-anointed CIA officer who goes from being an analyst at Langley to an undercover officer in Berlin tasked with finding a leak. In addition, Emmy® Award nominee Michelle Forbes (“The Killing,” “True Blood,” The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2) plays Valerie Edwards, the no-nonsense administrator who serves as a Berlin Station Internal Branch Chief; Emmy Award® winner and Academy Award® nominee Richard Jenkins (“Olive Kitteridge,” The Visitor) as Steven Frost, a veteran of the Cold War who serves as the CIA’s Berlin Chief of Station; BAFTA Award-winner Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1, “Elementary,” Notting Hill) as dark, charming and tenacious Case Officer Hector DeJean, an old friend of Miller.

New cast joining Berlin Station’s ensemble includes: Tamlyn Tomita (“Resurrection,” The Day After Tomorrow) as Sandra Abe, a quiet presence lording over the efficient operation of Berlin Station while having an affair with her boss, Steven Frost; Leland Orser (“Ray Donovan”) as Robert Kirsch, a devoted and successful Deputy Chief who digs intelligence out of the capital through a mix of force, diligence and cleverness; Richard Dillane (“Wolf Hall,” The Dark Knight) as Deputy Liaison Gerald Ellman, a gentle, reserved man who plans his transfer to Budapest, but finds himself in a position of being collateral damage; and Bernhard Schütz (A Most Wanted Man) as Hans Richter, an old-world spy who has risen, against all odds, to the highest ranks of the BfV.

Michaël Roskam (BullheadThe Drop) is an executive producer on the straight-to-series order and is directing the first two episodes. New York Times best-selling spy novelist Olen Steinhauer (The TouristAll The Old Knives, The Cairo Affair) created the series and is also an executive producer. Bradford Winters (“Dig,” “The Americans,” “Boss,” “Oz”) is the showrunner and an executive producer. Other executive producers for the series include Academy Award® winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The InsiderMunich, “House of Cards”), and Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett from Anonymous Content (“True Detective,” “The Knick,” “Mr. Robot”).

Berlin Station follows Daniel Miller, who has just arrived at the CIA foreign station in Berlin, Germany. Miller has a clandestine mission: to determine the identity of a now-famous whistleblower masquerading as “Thomas Shaw.” Guided by jaded veteran Hector DeJean, Daniel learns to contend with the rough-and-tumble world of the field officer—agent-running, deception, danger and moral compromises. As he dives deeper into the German capital’s hall of mirrors and uncovers the threads of a conspiracy that leads back to Washington, Daniel wonders: Can anyone ever be the same after a posting to Berlin?

“Graves” is a single camera, half-hour comedy starring Oscar-nominated Nick Nolte as a former President of the United States.  Twenty years after his presidency, former President Richard Graves has the epiphany that his policies have damaged the country for decades and so, with his young assistant, he goes on a Don Quixote-like journey to right his administration’s wrongs just as his wife, the former First Lady, decides to follow her own political ambitions.

The 10-episode, straight-to-series order will be produced in partnership with Lionsgate TV.  Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) created the project and will write, direct and executive produce the series.  Oscar-winning producer Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker) will also be an executive producer.

“‘Graves’ is a perfect vehicle to usher EPIX into premium scripted programming, and we look forward to delivering high end quality content for years to come,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television Group. “‘Graves’ is a provocative comedy featuring a terrific script from writer/director Joshua Michael Stern, a consummate producer in Greg Shapiro and the brilliant and charismatic Nick Nolte as a former U.S. President whose conscience catches up with him with tragic and comic results.  It is perfectly timed to premiere in an election year and marks a new chapter in the successful evolution of EPIX as a leading premium cable platform.”

Nick Nolte is represented by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Joshua Michael Stern is represented by Paradigm and AJ Brandenstein at Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, LLP. Greg Shapiro is represented by Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman.

EPIX and MGM are finalizing an agreement on an original series that will add to the network’s programming line-up. Specific details will be announced in the near future.

“We are working with EPIX to develop our next exciting series and look forward to bringing our signature style and storytelling to EPIX soon,” said Roma Khanna, President of MGM Television Group and Digital. “From Vikings to Fargo, MGM Television is the force behind some of the most exciting and award-winning series currently on television.”

In addition to the new scripted series, EPIX will continue to present original documentaries and docu-series (Deep Web, NHL Road to the Winter Classic and Stadium Series), comedy specials (Russell Brand, Jim Norton, Jim Breuer, Lisa Lampanelli) and music events (Katy Perry: Prismatic Tour), along with new movies (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Selma, Interstellar) and thousands of titles from partner studios and other sources.
