EPIX RENEWS AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY SERIES “AMERICA DIVIDED”

Series From Executive Producers Norman Lear and Jesse Williams To Return in 2018

Beverly Hills, CA – July 25, 2017 – EPIX®, an MGM company, today announced the second-season renewal of its award-winning documentary series “America Divided,” at the 2017 Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.  The 4-episode second season will premiere on EPIX in 2018.

“’America Divided’ season one truly distinguished EPIX as a destination for provocative, timely and important documentary storytelling,” said Mark Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX. “We are thrilled to be working with this team again to take a probing look at some of the most polarizing matters our country is facing today.”

In 2016, the award-winning celebrity-driven docu-series “America Divided” presented riveting stories about the critical issues tearing at our society—from the criminal justice system and education, to housing and heroin, to threats facing American democracy itself. In Season Two, Norman Lear and Jesse Williams return as executive producers and correspondents with another cast of celebrated Americans to continue the series’ mission to explore America’s most urgent challenges. The second season will once again go cross-country to investigate the forces driving us apart and introduce viewers to ordinary people engaged in extraordinary efforts to overcome our country’s racial, class, gender, religious and partisan divides.

Divided Films and RadicalMedia, the production companies responsible for Season One of the series, will return for season two. Series creators Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read and Richard Rowley will return for Divided Films, as will Jon Kamen and Justin Wilkes for Radical Media. Along with Lear, Brent Miller of Act III Productions will return as an executive producer.

AMERICA DIVIDED’ – SET FOR PRE-ELECTION FALL RELEASE

Dawson to Explore Flint, Michigan Water Crisis for Series

New York, NY – June 16, 2016 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today that actress Rosario Dawson (“Daredevil,” Sin City, Rent) has joined the limited Original Documentary Series America Divided as a celebrity correspondent. The docu-series created by Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read, and Richard Rowley, with executive producers Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes, and produced by DividedFilms in association with RadicalMedia, feature narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system – all woven into an eight-story, four-and-half hour series. Dawson, who is no stranger to offering her voice to conversations of national importance, has been tapped to explore the ongoing causes and legacy of the Flint, Michigan water crisis. Dawson’s segment begins production this month.

Dawson profiles the citizen-scientists who first exposed the existence of lead in the Flint water supply; investigates the alleged cover-up; and examines the policies behind the decision to switch the water supply in the first place. She joins residents, doctors, scientists, academics and political leaders in in-depth conversations to find answers to questions raised by one of the worst public health disasters in American history.

America Divided follows high-profile correspondents as they explore aspects of inequality related to their own biographies. Oscar®-winning hip-hop artist Common returns to his hometown of Chicago — ground zero for disparities in the criminal justice system. Emmy®– and Golden Globe®-winning actress America Ferrera travels to Texas to witness battles around access to the ballot and healthcare for poor women. Actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis investigates the political landscape in his home state of North Carolina and considers how it’s emblematic of the country’s deepening political divide during the 2016 campaign. Legendary TV producer Norman Lear, an original member of the Television Academy Hall of Fame, reports on the housing crisis in New York — from people who have no homes to luxury apartments purposely kept vacant. Actress and producer Amy Poehler witnesses the complex challenges faced by domestic workers who maintain an intimate relationship with the families that employ them, while also struggling for better conditions. Actor and activist Peter Sarsgaard explores the addiction crisis ravaging a heartland beset by unemployment and the shuttering of America’s factories. And “Grey’s Anatomy” star and former teacher Jesse Williams goes back to the classroom and becomes immersed in the battle to fix inequality in education.

America Divided, is an EPIX Original Documentary series produced by Divided Films in association with RadicalMedia. Norman Lear (“All in the Family,” “The Jeffersons”), Common (Selma, John Wick 2) and Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal”) are the executive producers along with the co-creators Solly Granatstein (“Years Of Living Dangerously,” “60 Minutes”), Lucian Read (“Years of Living Dangerously,” 99%) and Richard Rowley (Dirty Wars, “Years of Living Dangerously”).  Jon Kamen (Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory, The Fog of War), Dave O’Connor (You Don’t Know Bo, Whitey: The United States v. EPIX ANNOUNCES ‘AMERICA DIVIDED’, A PROVOCATIVE NEW DOCUMENTARY SERIES THAT EXAMINES THE GREATEST SOCIAL CRISIS FACING AMERICA TODAY – INEQUALITY

Executive Producers — Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes

Featuring Common, America Ferrera, Zach Galifianakis, Norman Lear, Amy Poehler,

Peter Sarsgaard and Jesse Williams

New York/Miami – January 19, 2016 – Premium TV network EPIX® announced today at the NATPE Conference in Miami the launch of an ambitious new Original Documentary series on inequality, America Divided. Created by Solly Granatstein, Lucian Read, and Richard Rowley, with executive producers Norman Lear, Common and Shonda Rhimes, and produced by Divided Films in association with RadicalMedia, America Divided will uncover dramatic untold stories illustrating how record levels of inequality are undermining the American dream. America Divided will make its World Television Premiere on EPIX in Fall 2016 in the run-up to the presidential election.

“EPIX is committed to presenting thought-provoking documentaries that deal head-on with hot-button topics that affect our society,” said Mark S. Greenberg, CEO & President of EPIX. “America Divided is a nonpartisan investigation of the key issues shaping the presidential campaign, and we are confident our viewers will find each episode compelling and accessible.”

“This series cuts to the heart of the inequality crisis, exploring life-and-death struggles around the economic, social and political divide,” said the show creators. “Our aim is to expose the damage extreme inequality inflicts on all Americans, reveal its systemic causes, and celebrate real-world heroes fighting for solutions.”

America Divided will feature high-profile correspondents exploring aspects of inequality related to their own biographies. Actor and activist Peter Sarsgaard explores the addiction crisis ravaging a heartland beset by unemployment and the shuttering of America’s factories. And, “Grey’s Anatomy” star and former teacher Jesse Williams goes back to the classroom and becomes immersed in the battle to fix inequality in education.

“Addressing the ramifications of inequality, is hugely important to me,” said executive producer and correspondent Common. “The more we explore the subject and build a dialog around the issues, the more we can do to create change.”

“Foremost among the Founding Fathers’ promises was equality under the law,” reflected Norman Lear, who is also serving as an executive producer and correspondent. “It’s up to us to help them keep their promise.”

“The promise of the American dream was a united country where everyone is treated equal,” said executive producer Shonda Rhimes.  “That promise has clearly been broken; all you have to do is look around to see that our reality has been built on the back of inequality.  It’s my hope that this series will inspire audiences to be part of a change that leads us into a stronger, more equal future.”
