NFL: The Grind: Season 2

NFL: The Grind hosted by Rich Eisen gives the final word of the week with game highlights, unique access, and in-depth field reports from former NFL stars.

Enslaved

Led by icon and activist Samuel L. Jackson, six-part docuseries Enslaved sheds new light on 400 years of human trafficking from Africa to the New World.   Based on a DNA test identifying his ancestral tribe, the series traces Jackson’s personal journey from the U.S. to Gabon for his induction into the Benga tribe, with rare and unprecedented access to secret ceremonies and local customs.   Following its launch on EPIX, Enslaved will also premiere on CBC in Canada on Sunday, October 18 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT).  The series is being distributed internationally by Fremantle.

Using new diving technology – such as advanced 3D mapping and ground-penetrating radar – to locate and examine sunken slave ships on three continents, the series reveals an entirely new perspective on the history of the transatlantic slave trade. The series also tracks the efforts of Diving With a Purpose (DWP), a collaborating organization with The National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS), as they search for and locate six slave ships that sank drowning the enslaved humans aboard.  Featuring the most dives ever made on sunken slave ships, Enslaved also chronicles the first positive identification of a “Freedom Ship,” an American schooner that ferried African American runaways to Canada.

Each episode follows three separate story lines: the quest for a sunken slave ship, a personal journey by Samuel L. Jackson and a historical investigation led by investigative journalists Simcha Jacobovici and Afua Hirsch.

Enslaved also celebrates stories of resistance, accomplishment and hope; the cultures left behind and the culture that we live in presently…a culture that, in many ways, was born in the bowels of those sunken slave ships.

Enslaved is a Canada/UK co-production between Toronto-based Associated Producers and London-based Cornelia Street Productions produced in association with CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster, and documentary Channel in Canada. Simcha Jacobovici serves as series director. Enslaved is executive produced by Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Eli Selden, Rob Lee, Simcha Jacobovici, Ric Esther Bienstock, Sarah Sapper and Yaron Niski, and produced by Ric Esther Bienstock, Sarah Sapper and Felix Golubev.  Produced in association with Anonymous Content, along with UppiTV, Samuel and LaTanya Jackson’s television production company.

Fremantle holds global distribution rights (excluding US, Canada and Israel).

Produced with the participation of Rogers Cable Network Fund and Canada Media Fund with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit.

Britannia: Season 2

In Season Two, the Romans are here and they’re set to stay. Two years on from his invasion of Britannia, with the help of Celt Queen Amena, General Aulus is busy Romanising willing Celt tribes and crushing those who try to resist. Aulus’ behaviour raises suspicions that he has another agenda; one that raises ghosts in Amena’s past and makes the threat he poses to the Druids ever more critical. The only form of hope for the people of Britannia is Cait, a young girl being trained by outcast Druid Divis, to fulfil a prophecy that would save the Celts and Druids from the rule of their Roman occupiers. But when a dead man wakes, two Druid brothers begin an epic battle of wills that divides their kind, and puts Cait and Divis’ quest, and the prophecy itself in jeopardy.

Season Two of Britannia is written by Jez, Tom and John-Henry Butterworth.

Britannia

Produced by Vertigo Films in association with Neal Street Productions and Sky Studios, Britannia is a genre-bending, psychedelic tale of clashing faith systems, torn apart families, mystic men, powerful women, all told with humor, heart and violence.

War of the Worlds

This eagerly-anticipated, contemporary reimaging of H.G. Wells timeless classic is created and written by BAFTA award-winning writer Howard Overman and produced by Urban Myth Films, in partnership with CANAL+, Fox Networks Group (FNG) Europe & Africa and AGC Television.

Set-in present-day Europe, War of the Worlds is a multi-faceted series, based on the story by H.G. Wells. When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. The world’s population waits for further contact with baited breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out; just pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world.

As alien ships appear in the sky, the survivors ask a burning question – who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction? This is a
story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances – but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. For, as we will come to realize, the aliens’ savage attack on earth is not arbitrary: its seeds are being sown before our very eyes.

The drama series is executive produced by Howard Overman, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps for Urban Myth Films.
