Ulbricht, the 30-year-old entrepreneur alleged to be “Dread Pirate Roberts” — founder of Silk Road, the notorious online black market best known for drug trafficking, is currently on trial in New York.  The feature-length documentary explores the inside story of the investigation and unveils how the brightest minds and thought leaders behind the Deep Web and Bitcoin are now caught in the crosshairs of the battle for control of a future inextricably linked to technology. The film also brings into question an individual’s rights to Internet Freedom.  The film is written, directed and produced by Alex Winter (Downloaded); produced by Glen Zipper and Marc Schiller; and the executive producer is Seth Gordon. Deep Web will also serve up the core architects of the Deep Web; anarchistic cryptographers who developed the Deep Web’s tools for the military in the early 1990s; the dissident journalists and whistleblowers who immediately sought refuge in this seemingly secure environment; and the figures behind the rise of Silk Road, which combines the security of the Deep Web with the anonymity of cryptocurrency. Deep Web Glossary of Terms:

  • Deep Web – the vast section of the World Wide Web that is not discoverable by means of standard search engines, including password-protected or dynamic pages and encrypted networks.
  • Dark Net – a section of the deep web that is inhabited by various entities who desire to communicate anonymously.
  • Cryptocurrency – a digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank (eg. Bitcoin).
  • Dread Pirate Roberts – the online pseudonym of the creator and manager of the online marketplace Silk Road.
  •  Silk Road – an online black market that allowed users to browse anonymously and securely without potential traffic monitoring.

Former Walt Disney Executive Joins Premium Network to Advance Original Series Development and Production 

NEW YORK, NY (January 13, 2015) – EPIX, the first premium entertainment network created to capitalize on the “TV Everywhere” era, today announced that it has named Jocelyn Diaz, former Vice President of Production at Walt Disney Studios, as Executive Vice President for Original Programming. Ms. Diaz, a specialist in drama series development and production, has more than 12 years’ experience launching, producing, and overseeing the successful execution of award-winning series and films at Walt Disney, HBO, and ABC Television.

Prior to that, she was Head of Drama Series and Vice President at HBO, where she managed dramatic pilot and series development and launches, including Boardwalk Empire and Big Love. She also worked on the award-winning series Lost, Ugly Betty, Pushing Daisies, NYPD Blue, The Practice and The Drew Carey Show while at ABC Television.

She holds a BA in English and Spanish Literature from the University of Virginia.

The number one pick in the 2004 NBA draft, straight out of a tiny high school in Atlanta, Georgia, Dwight joined the Orlando Magic and began a meteoric rise, quickly becoming one of the top 10 most recognizable athletes in the world and earning a reputation as charismatic, intensely competitive, and unwaveringly loyal.

For the first time, viewers will see how Dwight, known for his smile, dunks, Superman cape, and charity work, found himself in uncharted waters. From his glory days with Orlando and his season-ending back surgery, to his tumultuous year with the L.A. Lakers, to his fresh start in Houston, Dwight was tested physically, mentally, and emotionally. Dwight Howard In the Moment takes us through these key moments, showing us how he emerged from his ordeals a more mature, confident player and person.

Today, Dwight is back, most notably with his dominant performance in last year’s tough playoff series, and his continued pursuit of a championship with the Rockets.
