Silk: Spider Society series to debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel, followed by the global launch on Prime Video

CULVER CITY, California – November 17, 2022 – MGM+ and Prime Video announced today they have ordered a suite of live-action television series based on the Sony Pictures universe of Marvel characters, which includes over 900 characters.  The first series to be produced under the multi-series agreement is Silk: Spider Society, from Sony Pictures Television. The highly anticipated series will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and globally on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories thereafter.

As part of her recently signed multi-year overall television deal, Angela Kang will serve as showrunner. Kang developed the series with Academy Award winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal who will serve as executive producers.

“Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “Together with Angela Kang’s creative vision, we couldn’t be more pleased to bring Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video customers.”

“We can’t wait to bring the adventures of Cindy Moon to life, thanks to the creative dream team of Chris and Phil, Angela and Amy, along with our partners at Marvel and Amazon,” said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios.  “We know this exciting series with new and never-before-seen characters and storylines will wow audiences watching first on linear MGM+ and then around the world on Prime Video.”

“Angela is a pro’s pro whose perspective and creativity we greatly respect and admire. She’s also a hell of a lot of fun. She loves these characters and we feel really lucky for the chance to work with her to bring Cindy Moon’s story to the world” said Lord and Miller.

I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge—bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen, ” said Kang.

Based on characters created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Silk: Spider Society is inspired by the Marvel comics and follows Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family on her way to becoming the superhero known as Silk.

Secrets and scandals continue in eight-part series from Carnival Films

BEVERLY HILLS, California—September 28, 2022—Premium network EPIX announced today that the network has greenlit Belgravia: The Next Chapter, a continuation of the hit historical drama named for—and set in—the affluent London district that became synonymous with the upper echelons of London society in the 19th century. Filming on the eight-part series will commence early next year in the UK, and it will premiere in the winter of 2023.

The series will pick up in 1865, 25 years after the events depicted in the 2020 limited series, which was written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) and based on his novel of the same name. Developed and written by Helen Edmundson (Dalgliesh, Mary Magdalene), it will tell the love story of Frederick Trenchard, who has grown up as the third Lord Glanville, and his new love interest, Clara Dunn, who is a newcomer to London society. Unaware that his birth was the product of an affair between his mother Susan and the scoundrel John Bellasis, a troubled childhood has left Frederick deeply insecure, which challenges his courtship of and marriage to Clara.

The series reunites Julian Fellowes with  Carnival’s award-winning creative team—led by Gareth Neame— both Fellowes and Neames will serve as executive producers with Carnival’s Nigel Marchant and Joanna Strevens. Helen Edmundson serves as showrunner and executive producer. John Alexander (Small Island), who directed the original series, is lead director and executive producer. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) who produced the original series will return as producer.

With its cinematic scope, emotionally engaging story, and brilliant production design that brings the time period to life, Belgravia: The Next Chapter is an immersive story that will keep viewers riveted,” said Michael Wright, president of EPIX. “We can’t wait to see what Julian, Helen Edmundson and Carnival have in store for our audience.”

Two-part music docuseries from Jigsaw, Kennedy/Marshall, and Amblin to air in 2023

BEVERLY HILLS, California–September 28, 2022 – Premium network EPIX announced today that the music docuseries San Francisco Sounds (working title) has been greenlit. During this time period, there was a creative explosion in San Francisco that catalyzed and solidified a national movement for a whole generation. Incredible music, brilliant poster art, the birth of the FM radio DJ, the new journalism of Rolling Stone magazine, and seminal festivals—Monterey Pop, Altamont, and Woodstock—propelled Bay Area musicians onto a national scene and into the ears of millions. “Just like with Laurel Canyon, I personally lived through this extraordinary musical period of time and visited the San Francisco scene on a regular basis, so I’m very excited to be working again with the same amazing team we assembled to create the Laurel Canyon doc series,” said executive producer Frank Marshall.

“We are thrilled to shed new light on this explosively creative and musical place in time through never-before-seen archival material and the personal stories of those who lived and breathed the San Francisco scene,” said co-directors Alison Ellwood and Anoosh Tertzakian.

Frank Marshall (Laurel Canyon, Mr. A & Mr. M: The Story of A&M Records), Alex Gibney (The Inventor; Crime of the Century), Jeff Pollack (Laurel Canyon, McCartney 3,2,1), Darryl Frank (Laurel Canyon, The Americans, Good Night Oppy), Justin Falvey (Laurel Canyon, The Americans, Good Night Oppy), Stacey Offman (The Line, Kingdom of Silence), Richard Perello (How To Change Your Mind, Totally Under Control), and Alison Ellwood (Laurel Canyon, How to Change Your Mind, The Go-Go’s) are attached as executive producers along with Jeff Jampol (Janis: Little Girl Blue, When You’re Strange: A Film About the Doors). EPIX Greenlights Infamous Amityville Murders Docuseries

Four-part horror documentary executive produced by Lesley Chilcott (An Inconvenient Truth, Helter Skelter: An American Myth) to premiere in 2023

BEVERLY HILLS, California–September 28, 2022–Premium network EPIX announced today that it has greenlit a four-part docuseries about the world’s most infamous haunted house tale: the Amityville murders. The project from B17 Entertainment and executive produced by Lesley Chilcott (Helter Skelter: An American Myth, An Inconvenient Truth) is the first elevated look at every aspect of this wildly layered story about the heinous murder of a family of six that became eclipsed by paranormal controversy.

The 1979 blockbuster film, The Amityville Horror, inspired by the book of the same title by Jay Anson spawned an ever-expanding universe of movies, books, supernatural theories, and horror superfans. But the mass murder behind the hauntings—and its alleged ties to organized crime—left a long trail of questions that have never been fully explored.

Rooted in the dark cultural undercurrents of the 1970s, the series features firsthand accounts from witnesses, family members, and former investigators appearing on-camera for the first time. Exclusive archival footage, newly unearthed images, and stunning original photography are woven together into the most compelling and comprehensive telling of the Amityville story yet, taking viewers on a heart-pounding roller coaster ride through the mythology, factual record, and devastating human toll of this notorious meta-narrative.

In addition to Lesley Chilcott, Blaine Duncan, Brooklyn Hudson, Amanda Raymond, Rhett Bachner, and Brien Meagher serve as executive producers. Jack Riccobono (The Seventh Fire) serves as director and executive producer.

“I’m excited to share with our viewers what is truly one of the scariest stories ever told,” said EPIX president Michael Wright. “We’re thrilled to partner with B17 and Lesley Chilcott to bring this remarkable and chilling story to our audience.”

“Some stories stay lodged in our psyche forever,” said executive producer Lesley Chilcott. “I’m thrilled to be working with such talented people to uncover new truths about this complex and often-misunderstood series of unthinkable events.”
