Catalina Sandino Moreno made her screen debut in 2004 as the title character in the critically-acclaimed film, Maria Full of Grace, for HBO Films. Her performance garnered her an Academy Awards nomination in the Actress in a Leading Role category. She won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress as well as the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
She recently starred in the independent feature THE QUARRY opposite Michael Shannon and Shea Wigham and will soon be seen in the independent feature BARBARIANS opposite Iwan Rheon and Tom Cullen. She was a series regular in the critically acclaimed Showtime series THE AFFAIR. She was also recently seen as the lead in an episode of the HBO Anthology series ROOM 104 created by the Duplass Brothers.
She starred in the Blumhouse picture Incarnate, alongside Aaron Eckhart and Carice van Houten. Sandino starred in the independent feature, Custody, opposite Viola Davis and Ellen Burstyn for director James Lapine, which premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. She was nominated for best lead actress in a TV movie at the Imagen Awards and the Women’s Awards for her performance in CUSTODY.
Sandino appeared in A Most Violent Year opposite Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, written and directed by JC Chandor. She starred opposite Michael Cera, Emily Browning, and Juno Temple in Magic Magic. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She also appeared as the recurring character Alma Ruiz for two seasons, on the FX drama The Bridge, for which she received the 2014 Imagen Foundation Award in the category of “Best Supporting Actress.”
She appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s Che opposite Benencio Del Torro and Demian Bichir in the two-part biopic about ‘Che’ Guevara and the Cuban revolt against the Batista regime. She also starred with Javier Bardem in Love in the Time of Cholera. Other film credits include: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, A Stranger in Paradise, At The Devil’s Door, Madeas, Roa, Swelter, La Siguente Estacion, For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada, The Heart of the Earth, The Hottest State, Fast Food Nation, Journey to the End of the Night and Paris, Je T’Aime. Other television credits include: Falling Skies, East Los High, Red Band Society, and American Gothic.
