In his latest stand-up special, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, comedian Patton Oswalt tackles issues ranging from frozen food to the future of America. He delivers a blistering set for a packed house at San Diego’s Spreckels Theater with his trademark blend of acerbic wit and unabashed silliness.

As a comedian, Oswalt has shot four TV specials and recorded four critically acclaimed albums, including Finest Hour, which received a Grammy nomination in 2011 for “Best Comedy Album.” In 2009, he received his first Grammy nomination for his album My Weakness Is Strong.

In addition to his Grammy-nominated stand-up work, Oswalt has also found success on the big screen. This December, he will appear in the comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Ben Stiller. In 2012, Oswalt was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his brilliant performance in Jason Reitman’s film Young Adult, starring Charlize Theron. In 2009, he received critical acclaim for his performance in Robert Siegel’s Big Fan, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award; Oswalt earned a Gotham Award nomination for his performance.  On the small screen, Oswalt is known for his many memorable guest roles on TV shows, including “Parks and Recreation” (2013 TV Critics Choice Award winner), “Portlandia,” “Justified,” “Two and a Half Men,” and as the narrator of ABC’s new comedy “The Goldbergs.”

The film traces his path to stardom and answers the question, ‘who is the real Dwight Howard?’

SCHOOLED: THE PRICE OF COLLEGE SPORTS is a new original documentary that examines the provocative issues surrounding the business of college sports and the NCAA’s treatment of its athletes.  Pulitzer Prize winning civil rights scholar, Taylor Branch, bases the exposé on a controversial 2011 article that ran in The Atlantic “The Shame of College Sports”.  Narrated by actor Sam Rockwell, the documentaryweaves interviews, archival and behind-the-scenes footage to tell the story of how college sports has become a billion dollar industry built on athletes who are robbed of monetary privileges.  Those interviewed include: former college and NFL player and president of the NFL Players Association Domonique Foxworth, UCLA star and NBA player Ed O’Bannon, former University of Tennessee All-American and star running back for the Houston Texans Arian Foster, former UCLA standout now Green Bay Packers running back Johnathan Franklin, former UCLA punter now member of the Minnesota Vikings Jeff Locke and former University of North Carolina fullback Devon Ramsay, whose eligibility case was one of the most controversial in recent NCAA history. Also interviewed for the film are Emmy-winning sportscaster Bob Costas, ESPN analyst Jay Bilas, New York Times reporter Joe Nocera and Dave Zirin of The NationSports Illustrated reporters Frank Deford, George Dohrmann, BJ Schecter and Michael Rosenberg join them; and longtime college sports marketing innovator Sonny Vaccaro is also featured in the film.

At the time, Sports Illustrated’s Frank Deford said the story “may well be the most important article ever written about college sports.”  Branch, who also appears in the documentary, argues that decades of greed and self-interest have finally caught up with the NCAA and that the organization is poised to collapse under the weight of its own hypocrisy.

In each 30-minute episode, notables will disclose more information than ever before about their lives beyond the statistics and awards. Hosted by Bill Rhoden, an award-winning sports journalist with the New York Times, Personal with Bill Rhoden will premiere early next year on EPIX, on demand, online at EpixHD.com and EPIX apps on PS3, Xbox, Roku players, iPads and more.

The series begins with an intimate conversation between Rhoden and famed boxer and Olympic Gold Medalist Oscar De La Hoya.  Viewers will learn first hand about De La Hoya’s inspirations, including how and why he built a new life for himself following his time in the ring.  Upcoming Personal with Bill Rhoden subjects will be announced in the coming weeks.
